"Forging ASEAN's Leaders of Tomorrow"
MYModelASEAN is a student-led collective dedicated to expanding access to regional diplomacy and Model UN-style opportunities for students across the ASEAN region. By creating an inclusive platform centred on Southeast Asian perspectives, MYModelASEAN enables participants to engage meaningfully with regional issues, multilateral cooperation, and cross-cultural dialogue, regardless of their background or prior experience.
Founded by youth who recognised the uneven availability of regional engagement opportunities across Southeast Asia, MYModelASEAN seeks to address disparities driven by geography, resources, and institutional access. Our mission is to provide ASEAN youth with a platform to debate shared challenges, develop leadership and policy-making skills, and cultivate innovative, collaborative solutions that reflect the region’s diversity and interconnected future.
Each year, MYModelASEAN organises its flagship regional conference, Malaysia Model ASEAN, alongside a growing suite of initiatives aimed at strengthening youth diplomacy within ASEAN. These initiatives include regional workshops, training programmes, and cross-border collaborations designed to introduce students to ASEAN-focused discourse while supporting long-term growth, inclusivity, and community-building across the region.
Dear delegates, partners, faculty, and all future leaders of Southeast Asia,
It is an honour and a privilege to welcome you to the inaugural Malaysian Model ASEAN Meeting (MYModelASEAN), from Friday, November 7th, 2025, to Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at our proposed host, the prestigious Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.
My name is Ronan Ooi, a student at IGB International School studying the IB Diploma, and I am deeply honoured to be serving as your Secretary-General for this landmark conference. I have been participating in Model United Nations since 2019, and my passion for diplomacy has only grown with every conference. Having founded and served as Secretary-General for IpohMUN, that initiative became an integral part of my high school life - a promise fulfilled to bring high-quality diplomatic simulations to new communities.
MYModelASEAN is the strategic evolution of that promise. It is the culmination of years of experience and a direct answer to the need for a premier, accessible, and authentic platform focused exclusively on the dynamics of our home region. We intend to bring together hundreds of driven university and high school students to engage with the specific challenges and opportunities facing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
For this inaugural session, our vision extends beyond just a single event. We are launching a true "Youth Diplomacy Ecosystem." From expanding our international reach with the support of partners like SIMCC and the GSLC, to innovating a uniquely immersive "progressive coalescence" conference structure, my Secretariat and I are determined to make the first-ever Malaysian Model ASEAN Meeting an unforgettable and institution-building experience.
The complexity of the challenges facing Southeast Asia is unprecedented. As such, the importance of regional cooperation and a deep understanding of the "ASEAN Way" has never been more vital. It is MYModelASEAN's core mission to prepare our delegates with the skills they need to succeed in this landscape - from public speaking and policy research to the nuanced arts of negotiation and consensus-building. In your preparation and participation, you will learn how to work within this unique framework to develop solutions for our region's most pressing problems.
Ultimately, there is no better opportunity than the present to shape our collective future, and that fate is left to the actions and decisions of the leaders of tomorrow.
With Immense Gratitude,
Ronan Ooi Shen Yuan
